SCADA Software is designed for industrial control, measurement and large-scale systems consisting of central host, with one or more units, specialized software and a communication network. SCADS indicates a system, which collects data from different sensors at a plant, factory or in some other remote locations and this data is then sent to a central computer, which controls and manages the data. Typically, SCADA Software is utilized to manage industrial processes, facility processes and infrastructure processes. The related equipment and systems include human machine interface products, remote terminal units, supervisory systems and programmable logic controllers. Having SCADA systems in place, the master terminal unit or central monitoring system receives inputs from RTUs that are attached to field instrumentation like process ovens. While polled by SCADA master, the remote terminal units send data to central host for the purpose of processing. Data and acquisition and supervisory control system software then logs alarm as well as displays data graphically. SCADA systems today are designed to be operated on personal computers, which utilize popular operating systems like UNIX and Microsoft windows.

Choosing data acquisition and supervisory control necessitates an analysis of RTUs, devices that some suppliers refer digital communication units. There are two major kinds of remote terminals modular and single board. The Single board remote terminal units are compact and ruggedized products that locate all I/O modules on PCB. Modular RTUs have a central processing unit separately and a backplane to connect other input output modules. Some Software SCADA works with remote control units, which carry out basic alarm processing or begin reporting to SCADA master. SCADA software employs central monitoring system to implement different tasks. These functions involve real time data collection, sequential control, password protection diagnostics, automatic reporting and event-driven processing. SCADA software along with screen blanking, popup windows, help files and online file utilities are also available.
